He was an emigrant to America from Switzerland, who owned considerable land in Frederick County, Maryland, and died there. His will is recorded in Frederick County.

He came from the Palatine, probably Switzerland, and landed at Baltimore, Maryland, early in the eighteenth century, and purchased land in Frederick County, Maryland. He became a large land owner, and he owned large tracts of land in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. In his will he mentions one of his sons, Bartholomew, in disposing of his Pennsylvania estates.
