He was born January 20, 1819. [KK, 228]

He came with his parents to Venango County, Pennsylvania, at the age of three years. Moved to Butler County in 1865, where he resided for about eleven years, when he returned to Venango County, settling in Sugarcreek township, where he resided until the time of his death. Raised a family of nine children, three boys and six girls, all of whom were still living in 1879.
