General Notes: Husband - Zachariah M. Bloom
He attended the Welsh school when he was a boy but after he was sixteen years of age he worked on the farm during the summers and at lumbering in the winters. He married and then settled on a farm in Pike township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, moving then to Lawrence township, where he lived for two years, when he returned to the log house on his former farm and resided there until November, 1881, when he moved to the family homestead, a farm of seventy-five acres, situated in Pike township. He added land and erected a new barn and built an addition to the house. His land was all cleared with the exception of six acres in timber. During the closing year of the Civil War he enlisted in Co. D, 76th Pa. Vol. Inf., and served until the end, some five months. He escaped the misfortunes of his older brother and came home practically unharmed. At one time he belonged to the G. A. R. post at Clearfield. Politically he was a Democrat and was frequently tendered public offices; he served one term on the school board and two terms as road supervisor. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
