General Notes: Husband - John Benner

---

Coming to Union County, Pennsylvania, with his parents, he followed distilling in connection with farming at the old family homestead. He was a powerful man, being able to lift a barrel of whiskey by the chime and raise it to his knee. While he was comfortably situated and took the world easy, extracting all the pleasure possible from it, he was not wealthy. As a citizen he was well-known and influential, and throughout his life he was a steadfast supporter of the Whig party. He belonged to the Reformed Church, and at various times held office.
