General Notes: Husband - Alexander Bell
He was born on the family homestead in Washington township, Butler County, PA, and later inherited the property from his father. He always been engaged in farming, and eventually also in oil producing. He enlisted in Company A, Eighty-eighth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the Civil War, being present at the surrender of Lee's army. Politically, he was a Democrat, but in his later years he supported the Prohibition party. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church.
