He was born and married in England. He located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, at an early day. He followed the occupation of farming, and there reared his family of seven children. He had obtained a fine education and was especially noted for his penmanship, so that county officials often found it to their advantage to secure his assistance in their work.
