General Notes: Husband - George Beggs
He was born in Mahoning County, Ohio, and remained on the homestead until 1848, when he came to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and purchased a present farm. He was an agent for an iron roofing company of Niles, Ohio. He held various township offices, was an elder in the United Presbyterian Church of Sheakleyville, and voted the Republican ticket.
He remained on the family homestead until 1848, when his parents presented him with an old family horse, upon which he made his entry into Perry Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, soon afterward purchasing the one hundred-acre farm upon which he resided until his death. After erecting a small log cabin he cleared a small tract of land and prepared to raise his first crop. He lived alone for about two years before his marriage. He was a man of great energy and practical ability, and besides his farming interests he formed a partnership in the saw mill industry, purchasing for his supply about one hundred acres of timber land. He also acted as agent for a roofing company of Niles, Ohio.
