General Notes: Husband - Joseph L. Beck

He was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and as a youth was employed on the canal. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in the cavalry and served until the termination of the conflict. On his return home he went into the oil fields and for a number of years was engaged in the drilling of oil wells. While pursuing his labors he was the victim of a terrible accident, a portion of the derrick falling on him and breaking his back, thus rendering him permanently lame. Being thus forced to retire from active labor, he purchased a small farm in North Vandergrift, on which he operated a coal bank and cultivated gardens. He was a Democrat and a member of the Lutheran church.

Notes: Marriage

They were the parents of twelve children; nine were still living in 1906.
