He followed farming and stock raising, and in politics affiliated with the Whig party. The family finally moved [from Virginia] to Washington County, Pennsylvania, locating near Malden, in East Bethlehem township. He and his wife were both members of the M. E. Church.
He was a native of Maryland, of English descent, who passed his youth in that state. When a young man he came to Washington County, Pennsylvania, and settled on a farm near Bentleyville, where he worked 'Squire Bentley's farm on shares. While living in Maryland he was married. In political opinion he was a Democrat. He was thrown from a load of hay, the accident resulting in his death.
