He was born on Ruff's creek, Greene County, Pennsylvania. He followed farming, and passed nearly all of his life near Amity, Amwell township, Washington County.

He came to Amwell Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, from New Jersey, and was among the earliest settlers in that section. [TCHWWC, 849]
