He was educated in his native town, and after leaving the schoolroom engaged in agricultural pursuits, for which occupation he had a great liking. He resided on the farm on which he was born, but replaced the old house, which was destroyed by fire about a year after his father's death, with a comfortable and modern structure.
He was a partner of J. L. Ringer in the Delmont Handle Factory, making handles for tools of all kinds. He was unmarried, and his mother, and sisters, Rebecca, Ruth and Nancy, resided with him. He was a member of Delmont Presbyterian church, as were his mother and sisters. He was a Republican in politics, and served in several of the township offices.
