General Notes: Husband - Prof. James Sillaman
He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and came with his parents to Westmoreland County, locating with them on a farm at Alverton. He was one of those men who naturally pick up knowledge wherever it is to be found and who learn readily in the school of experience. He read widely and devoted much of his leisure time to the study of
various branches of human knowledge and so fitted himself for a long career as a teacher. He was also a civil engineer and surveyor of great prominence. He also followed the occupation of farming, and made his home at the village known as Tarrs Station.
He was an instructor and teacher for more than thirty-three years and county superintendent of public schools for three years.
