He was a native of Windsor County, Vermont, and a graduate of the Castleton Medical College of that state. At an early day he came to Erie County, Pennsylvania, settling in Harbor Creek township, where he followed the occupation of farming and was also engaged in the practice of medicine. He also taught three terms in the first schoolhouse built in the township.
