General Notes: Husband - Rev. Martin John

He was from Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and settled in what is now Washington township, Armstrong County, in 1800.

He was a Dunkard minister, and came to Washington Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and settled on what was later known as the Jonas Bowser farm. He erected a log house on his property, the first building in that section of the county, in 1808. This house, subsequently, had a second story added to it, and thus stood and sheltered four generations until 1918 when it was allowed to fall into ruin. Martin John died in a small log house on the farm of Henry Helsel, his son-in-law, near Sherrett, Pennsylvania, in 1847. Esther had previously died. They spoke only the "Palatine German." Their bodies repose in the small burial plot on what was known as the William Hay's farm,-a wooded hill top-where Henry Helsel and his wife Elizabeth and a number of other early settlers were buried.
