He was born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. [HIC 1880, 493]
He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and coming to Armstrong County with his family passed the rest of his life engaged in farming in what is now Washington township. He was prominent in politics as a member of the Republican party, and took an active part in local affairs, serving as president of the township board when his portion of Washington township was included in Sugar Creek township. He belonged to the Brethren Church.
He owned five hundred acres of land in Washington Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.
He settled on a portion of his father's tract of land two miles north of Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, where he followed the pursuit of a farmer.
