General Notes: Husband - John Richards
He was born in Maryland, and when a young man came to Greene County, Pennsylvania. In 1841 he and his wife purchased and moved onto the home farm in East Pike Run township, Washington County, and their place was for many years known throughout the country as the "Black Horse Tavern." Mr. Richards was a successful farmer, and, politically, voted with the Whig and Republican parties. He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church at Coal Centre.
A native of Maryland, he came to Washington County, Pennsylvania, during early manhood and settled in East Pike Run Township, where for many years he rented the Black Horse Tavern, which he subsequently purchased and continued to manage until the time of his death.
