General Notes: Husband - Thomas C. Richards
He was reared in the old Black Horse Tavern, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He always followed farming and with the exception of three years spent on a farm in Allen County, Pa. [sic], during his early manhood, was always a resident of East Pike Run Township. In 1864 he purchased a farm of 200 acres, which was located in both East and West Pike Run Townships with the township line running near the house, and had one of the best improved farms in the township. The house, which was a large frame building, and the barns and all outbuildings were built by Mr. Richards, and while he continued to manage the farm, he had it cultivated on shares by Henry Hannen. Mr. Richards always made a specialty of sheep raising. Additionally, he was a director and one of the organizers of the Peoples Bank of California.
