This family is of French origin and trace their descent to one Abraham Penrod, who settled in Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and became the owner of four hundred acres of land. He was one of the pioneers of that region and personally cleared a large portion of his property of the growth of virgin forest with which it was overspread. He was a farmer all his life. He was a Democrat, and a member of the Christian church. His death occurred at the venerable age of ninety years, and both he and his wife are buried in the private graveyard on the old farm.
