General Notes: Husband - Hon. John H. Patchin
He completed his education in Buckner University, at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, was elected to the legislature, and for two years served his district in that body.
He went from the public schools to Bucknell University, where he took a three-year course and then attended Lafayette College, at Easton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Patchin then entered into the lumber business with his father and during a part of this time was engaged in rafting on the Susquehanna river. In 1903 he moved to Burnside and bought the saw-mill and lumber interests of Horace Patchin and was managing an estate of 2,000 acres. Additionally he was interested in dealing in ship-building supplies, in partnership with his brother-in-law, at Camden, New Jersey, had oil properties in Oklahoma and was a director of the First National Bank at Glen Campbell.
In politics, Mr. Patchin was a Republican, and he was an active and loyal party worker. He served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Legislature for one term, 1894-5.
Fraternally he was identified with the leading organizations, belonging to the Blue Lodge and Chapter, Masons, at Clearfield; the Elks, at Clearfield; the Red Men at Glen Campbell; and the Odd Fellows at Burnside, being past master of this lodge.
After attending the public schools of the neighborhood, he entered Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and afterward was a student in LaFayette College, Easton. He held membership in the Phi Gamma Delta Society. On his return home, Mr. Patchin joined his father in his business interests, and was concerned in one of the most extensive lumber enterprises of Clearfield County. He was also connected with mercantile and farming interests.
In politics, Mr. Patchin was a recognized leader, and since the time he attained his majority he was almost continually the incumbent of one or other public office. He was unwavering in his support of the tenets promulgated by the Republican party, and in the Republican convention of 1894 was nominated as the representative for the State Legislature. Previously, Clearfield County had given strong Democratic majorities, but the canvass of that year was well planned, and the strength of the candidate was shown in the election returns when it was found that he was chosen to represent his district. He was one of the youngest members of the Legislature, but was honored by the speaker of the House with appointment to several important committees, serving on the committees on Labor and Industry, Mines and Mining, Fish and Game, and County and Township.
