General Notes: Husband - Hon. George Boal Orlady
He received his education in the Huntingdon public schools, at Pennsylvania State College, Bellwood Academy, and Washington and Jefferson College, taking the diploma of the last named institution in 1869. After reading medicine with his father, and graduating with high honors from the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia, he practiced medicine for four years at Petersburg. Turning his attention to the study of law, he read at Hollidaysburg with Hon. Samuel S. Blair, and was first admitted to the bar of Blair county. He did not, however, remain there, but settled in his native county, where he was three times elected district attorney, in 1878, 1881 and 1884, his majority increasing at each re-election. He prosecuted the pleas of the county with vigor and ability; he was considered one of the most skillful lawyers who had filled the office.
At the creation of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, Mr. Orlady was appointed to its bench by Gov. Hastings, receiving afterwards the unanimous nomination of the Republican State convention, and being elected by a full majority, November 5, 1895.
He took a leading part in the affairs of the Republican party, both in the state and the county, being active in campaigns and doing efficient service to his party by his oratorical powers. He was several times delegated to county conventions, and three times to state conventions. In the convention of 1890, he presented the name of Gen. Hastings as candidate for governor, and in that of 1894, nominated Hon. Galusha A. Grow for congressman-at-large.
His home was situated on Oneida Heights, Huntingdon. He belonged to of the Masonic order, belonging to Mount Moriah Lodge, No. 300, Free and Accepted Masons, Standing Stone Chapter, No. 201, Royal Arch Masons, Huntingdon Commandery, No. 65, and Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. In 1908 and 1909 he served as Grand Master of the Masonic fraternity of Pennsylvania.
