General Notes: Husband - Adam Schenck
He was born in Germany and came to America with his parents when five years of age. He received a common school education, learned the shoemaker's trade and subsequently engaged in farming.
He went into the boot and shoe business in Butler, as a member of the firm of Bickel & Schenck, which he continued until 1856, and then moved to the homestead farm, where he resided until his death.
He was a member of the Lutheran church, and an elder in that body for over thirty years. In politics, he was originally a Whig and afterwards a Democrat, and filled the offices of school director and supervisor. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F., and was at one time connected with the State Militia.
