Of German origin, he lived in Mt. Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, Pennslyvania, where he died at the age of ninety-six years. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war and afterwards engaged in tilling the soil.

He was a fifer in the Revolutionary War.
