General Notes: Husband - John Barnes
He was born on the old Barnes homestead in Mercer township, Butler county, PA, received his education in a pioneer subscription school, and was reared amidst the scenes and trials of early days. After reaching manhood he purchased 100 acres of land where his son Hiram later resided. He cleared this farm, erected buildings, and spent the remaining years of his life in making a home for his family. He was an ardent Democrat, and filled most of the township offices at different periods. Both he and wife were members of Harmony United Presbyterian church.
