This family is of German descent, the name having originally been spelled Meyers; it is one of the oldest established families in America, having emigrated from the Father-land long prior to the revolution-ary war, in which two of the earliest ancestors were soldiers.

Frederick Meyers, the first member of the family of whom we have record, was a native of Saxony, and went from there to Switzer-land.

He fled from his native country, Saxony, during the religious per-secution of the seventeenth century and settled in Switzerland. [HCB, 179]
