He was reared at the old family farm, and remained there until the age of twenty-five, when he began farming on his own account. After his marriage he was engaged in agriculture on a portion of the old homestead. His farm contained about sixty acres of fine land, and under his management was one of the best estates of its size in the locality. He was a stanch Democrat.
