He and his wife came to America from Germany with their two sons in 1849. The family settled in Erie County, New York, near the outskirts of Buffalo, and there established a permanent home, where both parents remained until death. The father was a cooper, brewer and distiller, but engaged principally at coopering. [HVC 1919, 959]
