General Notes: Husband - Emil Maurhoff

He was born in Hanover, Germany, and after an excellent preparatory education was sent to a university in his native land, and was graduated with the degree of Civil Engineer. He followed the calling of surveying in America, and laid out Saxonburg, Butler County, Pennsylvania, in 1821, residing there for the remainder of his life.

He was a native of Hanover, Germany, and immigrated to Butler County, Pennsylvania, about 1832, settling in Saxonburg. He was an engineer and surveyor, and assisted in surveying a large amount of the lands in that county. He embarked in merchandising at Saxonburg, which he carried on down to his death. He and his wife were among the first members of the Evangelical Protestant church. In politics, he was a Republican, was justice of the peace for many years, clerk of the courts of Butler County for one term, and was postmaster at Saxonburg for a long period.

He was born in Germany, from which country he emigrated, and in 1833 came to Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, where he conducted a store some years, and was also squire and postmaster for twelve years. About 1842 he returned to Germany for a time, but subsequently came back to Butler County, where he purchased a small farm.

He resided in Saxonburg almost from its beginning, served as Justice of the Peace, and was prominent in the affairs of the town.

In 1833 he arrived, and later established a general store, in company with F. D. Schweitering. They sold out in 1835 to Gosewitch & Graefe.

General Notes: Wife - Johanna Pollard

She was a native of Germany, and came with her parents to Butler County, Pennsylvania, about 1838.

Her father was a silversmith in Germany, and came to the United States about 1820. At first he made his home in North Carolina, whence he went to Germantown, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and finally settled permanently in Saxonburg, Butler County, where his death occurred.
