He was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, and came to Indiana County, Pennslyvania, in 1816 with his father.

He was one of the early farmers of Conemaugh township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, where he owned 180 acres of land. He died at the extreme old age of ninety-six years.
