Until he had passed boyhood and entered well into his teens, he attended school in the neighborhood of his home. From early youth he was acquainted with farming and stock raising and his chosen line of work was always of an agricultural nature. Prior to coming to a farm, in November, 1906, he owned another farm in Slippery Rock Township containing forty-eight acres. This he sold when he contemplated moving to North Beaver Township when he had the opportunity of purchasing his later valuable property, which was formerly the John R. Miller farm. A part of the land was in timber and in order to convert the same into lumber Mr. Martin began operating a sawmill on his property.
