After leaving school he was employed as a bridge carpenter on the Bessemer road for about four years, and then became connected with the Carnegie steel plant as a roll turner. For two years he filled that position, which he resigned to accept an appointment on the city police force of Greenville, having continued that service most acceptably for the past two years. In politics he is an active Democrat. His fraternal relations are with the Elks and Knights of Pythias, he being past chaplain of the Greenville lodge in the former, and in the latter identified with Lodge No. 469.
