General Notes: Husband - Dr. John Johnston Singer
He obtained the preliminary portion of his education in the local public schools, which he attended up to the age of thirteen years. He was then sent by his father to the Kiskiminetas Spring School at Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1896. From an early age his attention and interest had been attracted by the profession of medicine and his bent in this direction was encouraged by his father, who was at the time a successful practitioner in Connellsville. Accordingly, when it came time for the choice of a profession, the young man went to the Medical School connected with the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia, and there graduated with the class of 1902 and took his degree of Doctor of Medicine after establishing a brilliant record as a student. Upon his graduation he returned to Connellsville, where for a time he joined forces with his father and began the practice of his profession under the auspices of the elder man. He remained in Connellsville until the year 1906 and then moved to Greensburg. He held a number of important medical posts in the community and was surgeon for the Keystone Coal and Coke Company, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and was the Roentgenologist of the Westmoreland Hospital. He was also United States pension examiner for Westmoreland County.
He was a member of the local lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In his religious belief he was a Presbyterian and attended the First Church of that denomination at Greensburg.
