General Notes: Husband - Harry Stottler Shaw
He was born on the old Shaw estate near Delmont, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and passed the years of his childhood on the old farm. He attended the local public schools and assisted his father in the farm work until he had reached the age of twenty years, when he left the parental roof and established a livery business in the town of Delmont, near by. For several years he met with a high degree of success and continued this business until the autumn of 1915, having moved in 1901 to New Kensington. In 1915 he erected a handsome two story solid brick building, sixty by one hundred and twenty feet in dimensions, and there established an automobile and garage business, with a skating rink on the second floor. This enterprise met with success from the outset.
Mr. Shaw was a staunch Republican and was particularly active in the political situation at New Kensington. He found it inconsistent with his interests, however, to hold public office and refused the earnest solicitations of his colleagues and friends who urged upon him a number of offices. He was a member of the local lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and was affiliated with the Lutheran church at New Kensington.
