General Notes: Husband - Alexander Scroggs

He was born in Scotland. In 1745, when he was thirty-seven years of age, he came to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He located on a farm on Green Springs, in Hopewell (later Newton) Township, about three miles west of Newville. He was, like his brother Allen, a ruling elder in the Big Spring Associate church. At one time he was the owner of some 600 acres of land.

He had eleven children with his first wife, but no names are found for four of them. It is supposed that those died in infancy.
Another source: he had twelve children with his first wife, and ten with the second.

General Notes: Wife - Rachel Leith

from Edinburgh, Scotland

Notes: Marriage

The tradition is that this was a runaway match. Rachel being a considerable heiress and her family objecting to Alexander because he was a younger son and not in line to have much estate.
