General Notes: Husband - Thomas W. Sheakley

He obtained the average education afforded by the pioneer district schools, and assisted his father until his marriage. He resided on the homestead from 1840, whose name, "Spring Lake," was appropriately applied to it through the forethought and deep love of nature which were so characteristic of the owner. Originally there were three large natural springs on the farm, whose ever living waters he artistically combined into a beautiful lake whose bright face gleamed before the family home. This was the only farm in Mercer County which has also a stock of game fish, originally planted therein by the same kind father who was the author of the lake. He was prominent both in the township government and in the work of the United Presbyterian Church, and was not only a man of broad usefulness but above reproach. [HMC 1909, 970]
