General Notes: Husband - Matthew [2] Shields
He and his brother, David, took charge of the old homestead farm which their father had conveyed to them at his death. Mathew sold his interest to his brother David about 1840, and bought a farm of two hundred and thirty-five acres from John Paul, located on Beaver Run, Salem township, and farmed there about thirty years. He then moved to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where he resided until October, 1877, then moved to Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. He retired from active business and rented his farm property. He served as school director about one term. He was a member of the Presbyterian church for over fifty-five years, and served a few years as trustee of the Salem church.
He died at the remarkable age of one hundred years.
