General Notes: Husband - John F. Landis
Penn Station, Westmoreland Co, PA
He was one of the first two justices of the peace elected immediately upon the incorporation of Penn borough, and was retained in the office for thirty years.
After leaving the common schools he embarked in the mercantile business at Penn, which he continued for a number of years. He served as justice of the peace for more than fifteen years; he was also engaged in the real estate and insurance business and had excellent trade. Being a man of deep convictions he was unswerving in his fealty to the principles of the Democratic party. He was a member of the Lutheran church and an upright, conscientious man, diligent, energetic and popular. Being possessed of a good memory and sound judgment he made an excellent justice, deciding the cases that came before him in strict accordance with law, justice and equity. When he located at Penn in 1858, there were but six houses in the place, and he was entitled to much credit for what he has did over the course of three decades toward building up his adopted town.
