He inherited a part of the old family farm, where he passed the greater portion of his life.
Most of his life was spent on a farm situated one and a half miles from Youngstown, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he carried on agricultural operations. He was a man of unusual energy and initiative and took an extremely active part in the affairs of the community-at-large. Besides carrying on his farm, he also was an active participant in Republican politics and a prominent member of the Reformed church.
He and his wife had three children, two of whom reached maturity.
