General Notes: Husband - John H. McDowell


He was born at the home farm in the Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and was educated in the Fairview public school. In the intervals of school life he assisted his father in the cultivation of the farm, and for three terms taught the Binkey, Myers and Waterford advanced public schools. He continued teaching and farming until 1897, then entered the employ of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, at Idlewild Park. He continued in that employ for over twenty years, having successively served as express agent, ticket agent, and chief clerk, the latter position to which he was appointed in October, 1913.
Mr. McDowell was a Republican in politics; served one term of two years as school director, and then another term of six years. He served as both president and treasurer of the board, and is its vice-president. He was a member of the Ligonier Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; Ligonier Lodge, and Ligonier Encampment, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Ligonier from 1908, and was also a teacher in the Sunday school of that church.
