General Notes: Husband - Dr. David S. Marquis

He received an academic education, after which he began the study of medicine with Drs. Oliver and Smith Cunningham, of Beaver, Pennsylvania, meanwhile attending two courses of lectures at the Ohio Medical College in Cincinnati, from which institution he was graduated in the class of 1845-46. He made Hookstown, Beaver County, the scene of his first professional labors, and three and a half years later removed to Freedom, in the same county, where he continued for ten years in practice. In 1859 Dr. Marquis came to Rochester, Pennsylvania, where he soon established himself as one of the successful physicians of the borough, with a correspondingly extended field of operations. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society; of the American Medical Association; and of the Beaver County Medical Society, of which he was at one time the president. Apart from his membership in the Presbyterian church of Rochester, the Doctor was connected with no other organizations.
