He was educated in the local schools, and passed his youth and the early part of his life, up to the age of forty-seven years, in his native town. Upon the completion of his schooling, he learned the trade of carpenter and followed this calling with so much success that he became a man of substance and very well-to-do. In the year 1897 he removed to Sewickley Village and there continued to ply his trade with the same success. In the year 1909 he built himself, at No. 709 Broad street, Sewickley, a fine brick residence.
He was an ardent temperance man and a staunch member of the Republican party.
