He came to Sewickley, Pennsylvania, in 1864 and began his business life as a clerk in that town. He afterwards became a successful merchant there. He was a prominent man in Sewickley, a Republican in politics, and served his fellow citizens in the capacity of justice of the peace for thirty years.
