---

He was among the first to locate in Maxville, where he owned, at that time, some three hundred acres. He laid out the town, which at first bore the name of McCormicksville, but later was abridged to Maxville. There he was engaged in burning lime, which was then the leading pursuit of the locality, and remained a most influential citizen until his death.
