General Notes: Husband - John McCune
He was a descendant on his mother's side of the house of the Luthers, pioneers in the Ligonier valley, Pennsylvania. One of the Luther boys was taken prisoner by the Indians when only seven years old, and was raised by them. Two other boys were taken, but when the Indians went to pull out their hair they cried, and the Indians killed them. Young Luther determined not to flinch, and after pulling out his hair they washed him in the river to "wash out the white blood," and adopted him. At the treaty the Indians returned him with a full Indian outfit, pony and all, but the pony strayed in the woods and could never be found.
He was a carpenter, and helped build the old [Indiana County?] courthouse, and it is said he placed the balls on the steeple as his closing work on it.
