The funeral of George Lusher, who died on the 9th inst., took place on the 12th inst. at 1:30 p. m. His pastor, Rev. Pollard, conducted the services at the bereaved home and at the M. E. church, of which he had been a member for many years. His physician, Dr. McDowell, had charge of the singing. The pall bearers were: John Pryor, James and Park Simpson, Harvey Bell, C. B. GEORGE LUSHER.
George Lusher, aged 76 years, a life-long resident of Rockland and widely known throughout this part of the country, died at his home in Rockland at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon. On Tuesday of last week he was stricken very suddenly with paralysis as he sat at the supper table and the doctors who were called thought he could live but a few hours, he lingered however, until Monday without regaining conciousness. His death comes as a great shock to his many friends, for although he was advanced in years, he was a man of magnificent physique and was apparently in good health, and had been engaged in work up to about three weeks ago. Mr. Lusher by trade was a carpenter, brick-layer and stone-mason and a very skilled workman. Examples of his work are to be seen throughout the county. He had always been a hard working man and despite his years still engaged in carpentering and the other trades in which he was skilled up to the closing in of the winter season, and during the past year had erected a number of buildings. His home had always been in Rockland. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnathan Lusher, pioneer settlers of that township and he was born on the farm upon which he died. On March 22, 1853, he was married to Miss Charity Jacobs, also of Rockland. He was the father of a large family and his is the first death to make a break in the home circle. He was a man of exemplary character and the oldest member of the M. E. church of Rockland. Besides his wife, he is survived by eight children as follows: Andrew, of Grove City; Miles, of Mich. Mrs. Frank Smith, of Michigan; Mrs. James Watson, of Rockland; Mrs. Emma Davis, of Gibsonburg, O.; Perry of Rockland, and Belle and Harry, at home. He is also survived by four brothers and five sisters: David, of Mercer; Jacob, Peter, and Miles, of Rockland; Mrs. Katherine Allison, of Seneca; Mrs. John Montgomery, of Nickleville; Mrs. Elmira Mauck and Miranda Forebus, of Sandy Lake; and Martha at home. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Pollard, officiating. The interment was in the Rockland cemetery.
