From Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, he settled in 1840 in Ringgold township, Jefferson County, where they were the first settlers. They built a log cabin in the midst of the wilderness, and their remaining years were spent there. In religious faith they were Lutherans, and at death their remains were interred in the cemetery at St. John's Church.
