General Notes: Husband - Squire William Irwin Hunter

He received his early education in the common schools near his home, but was later sent to Mt. Pleasant Institute and the Oberlin Business College. After learning telegraphy and teaching school for four years in Westmoreland County he entered in business for himself. He engaged in the machinery, wagon and buggy business for a number of years. This occupied his entire time until he was elected justice of the peace in 1910, and he was later re-elected for a second term. In connection with this, it is interesting to note that at his second election he received the largest majority ever given a candidate in Greensburg.

He received a good common school education in the local schools, which he continued at a business college in Ohio and at Mount Pleasant Seminary. For thirteen years thereafter he taught in the Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, public schools, obtaining a permanent certificate from the State Department of Education. For a time he engaged in the mercantile business for himself in Donegal, and in Greensburg, which grew steadily under his management. In 1910, however, he was elected justice of the peace in Greensburg, and accepted the position held in such high esteem in his family.
Squire Hunter was a Democrat in politics; in religion, he was a member of the Methodist Church. He belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
