Hagerstown, Washington Co, MD

The Howards are members of a very old North Carolina family and are related to many of the most prominent houses in the South. In another line they are direct descendants of Major Redding Blount, of Revolutionary fame, and the family has furnished many of its members to the community on every occasion when it was imperilled. This was conspicuously the case during the Civil War, when many of its members were soldiers in the Confederate army and served with distinction and gallantry.
