General Notes: Husband - John A. Schoch

He was born at the old family homestead, near what afterward became Kreamer, Pennsylvania, where he passed his early years. He married and, having purchased the old "stone hotel," settled in it, but, in 1836, not liking the hotel business, he sold the property to Jacob More, and moved to a farm three miles west of Middleburg, of which he became the owner. There he remained, following agricultural pursuits until his death. He was the pioneer advocate of public schools in that locality, and early in the eighteen-forties donated the ground upon which the first public school building in Snyder County was erected. He was also instrumental in securing the best teachers and maintaining a high standard of education, even making personal sacrifices to accomplish these ends.

General Notes: Wife - Lydia Houtz

After the death of her husband, she resided at Selins Grove, Pennsylvania, to which she moved in 1866. She organized, in 1846, the first country Sunday-school in the county in which she lived; even into old age, she was still profoundly interested in the higher Christian education.
