General Notes: Wife - Mary Hohn

Her husband, John Myers, was a tavern keeper in Richland Township, Venango County, PA. It has been reported that in 1844 Mary brought charges of assault and battery against John—he was found guilty and sentenced to pay court costs. In Jan 1847, Myers was poisoned by his wife and her associate, a man named Parker. Mary and Mr. Parker were both tried, convicted, and sentenced to hang, but Parker escaped and was never heard from again. It was the first murder trial in Venango County. Col. James Stroble Myers, brother of John and then a young lawyer, prosecuted the criminals. Mary was kept in jail for some time afterward, but being enciente (pregnant) the question as to the right to hang the unborn child caused them to let her go free. She went to Clarion County, was married again, and lived long afterwards.
