General Notes: Husband - John Y. Woods
He was prepared for college at the old Mount Pleasant academy, entered the freshmen class of Jefferson college in 1853, and was graduated in the first class after the consolidation of Washington and Jefferson colleges. Immediately after his graduation he commenced the practice of law in the office of Foster & Woods, and was admitted to the bar in 1858. After his admission he actively engaged in the practice and devoted his whole time to the interests of his many clients. He was the nominee of his party, the democrats, in 1871 for the office of district attorney of Westmoreland County, was elected and served most acceptably for three years. He always took a leading part in politics and wielded a powerful influence in the ranks of the democracy. He at various times served his party as delegate to political conventions and took a leading part in their deliberations. He possessed a keen insight into political economy, was a man of fine literary tastes and owned one of the most extensive and well-assorted libraries in the county.
